The direction of credit card debt in the year 2012

There are many reasons why we need to start budgeting and get our finances under control. Unless you live under a rock, it's only common sense to see where the economy is going and why consumers are becoming so reliant on credit card debt. With unemployment continuing to only grow, it's only a matter of time until consumers file for bankruptcy. It is time to stop spending and start saving. It's only human nature to try and buy only the best of things, dress to impress and have nice things in everyday life. Those times are over and we need to get a handle of the situation fast in order to live a debt free life. The credit card statistics for 2012 are not starting to look any better due to the current economic situation.

With the holidays fast approaching, credit card companies are planning new attractive offers for consumers that will reel them in as new clients. When consumers walk into department store cards their usually misled by introductory offers or the infamous "make no payments until 2013". It's important to stay away from these offers as it will only bite you down the road and will only further worsen your situation and our economy. If consumers decide to pursue introductory offers in 2012, it's important to try and have a battle plan to pay back the debt in a few months at most. Some of these offers are 0% for the first 2 years, very low minimum payments depending on a consumers income along with many other offers. It sounds great, but the fine print will state that at any time the creditor can change any terms given to the consumer and they will.

Do not fall for the attraction of making no payments today and please, don't apply for any additional credit card debt. Of course the first thing that has to be done is to cut up those credit cards to avoid further temptation, yes get rid of them. The credit cards are ruining your financial health and it is time to put a stop to it. If you absolutely have to keep one for emergencies well, that's fine. But discipline yourself and only use it if you have no other choice.

Useful strategies for credit card debt in 2012

  1. Our company absolutely recommends that consumers enroll into a debt management plan, to take care of the current debt owed and possibly obtain education from getting further debt. This type of plan will not renegotiate the balance but only the minimum payments and interest rates. Since this program doesn't touch the balance, it will not harm the consumers credit score in a negative way. The debt management program was created to help consumers repay credit card debt, while keeping them current.

  2. A second strategy on how to get out of credit card debt, would be to double up on the minimum payments. The fact of the matter is when it comes to credit card debt, is that consumers pay only the minimum required payment. When consumers make only the minimum payment, a greater percentage of that payment is applied towards finance charges and interest costs. When consumers double up on the minimum payment, they will see that a big percent of those payments will go towards the actual balance. If a consumer is not interested in enrolling into debt management plan, doing this is vital. If the consumer cannot do this, they may as well give up now as paying off the debt will be virtually impossible.
